Layfolk

An umbrella term for those living in the bottom layers, or Floor of the Oase Gulches1. This term is also used for the artificial species of forgefolk and formfolk, as they live predominantly in these areas. The word carries a belittling connotation of childish and folkloric superstition, mixed with โ€œhaving been tampered withโ€ or โ€œnot quite rightโ€, so it often extends its definition to that of tyrn or tearfolk, wildings or werefolk, or anything else the Oase find alien or abnormal.

alternate names: folk, volg, folkie (inf)
plural: folks, volgus, folkies (inf)
adjectives: folkish, volgar
